Christina To Play Tempest Storm?

May 21st, 2007

Christina Aguilera is currently being lined up to play the notorious burlesque stripper Tempest Storm in a new film biopic.

Storm was a Hollywood dancer who entertained the likes of John F Kennedy and Elvis Presley with her risqué topless dancing.

A source revealed to the Daily Star: “The role of Tempest has Christina’s name written all over it.

“She’s got the looks - and the moves. People forget the singer has an acting background”.

Christina Talks About Former Hit Dirrty

May 21st, 2007

Two years after she made her ‘Dirrty‘ video, singer Christina Aguilera defended both, the song and the video.

In a recent interview, Aguilera, who was severely panned for the racy video, said that ‘Dirrty’ was a significant song, as it demonstrated the amount of change required in people’s views about female sexuality.

“There was a backlash against me for a while after that, for sure, but I’m proud of Dirrty. It was an important song. It really showed how much still has to change about people’s views about female sexuality,” Hollywoodrag quoted Aguilera, as saying.

“I think women should be supporting each other to feel empowered, not making each other feel ashamed. If you watch that video, you’ll see I wasn’t being disrespected in any way by a man. If anything, I was in the power position. I look back at that video and I think - wow - I put myself out there. You look at that video now and you’ll see, I really had some balls!” she added.

Aguilera also said that it was wrong and unfair for people to judge her career exclusively on Dirrty.

“It would be sad if people judged my career solely on `Dirrty’. I was just making a point that, as women, it’s important to feel free enough to express yourself as a sexual being,” she said.

“I’d say I was passionate and creative, someone who stands up for what she believes in, someone who’s pretty bold,” she added.

Christina will perform in Shanghai

May 19th, 2007

China’s culture officials this week cleared Christina Aguilera to perform in Shanghai next month despite misgivings about the racy U.S. pop star’s “sexy” act, entertainment sources said on Wednesday.

China’s censors banned the Rolling Stones from playing some of their more sexually explicit songs at their first concert in Shanghai last year, and Beijing also cancelled rap artist Jay-Z’s 2006 concert, citing indecent lyrics, local media reported.

But an entertainment source close to the concert’s organizer said Aguilera had obtained all the necessary government approvals and that tickets would be available soon.

Aguilera’s official Web site (www.christinaaguilera.com) says she will perform in Shanghai on June 26.

“Definitely, not every foreign artist has the luck to win Beijing’s approval and Christina’s sexy performance was once a concern when applying to the regulators,” said the source who declined to be named.

The Shanghai date would be the only concert in mainland China, another source told Reuters.

“There will be no concert in Beijing or any other mainland cities for this time,” he said, adding that tickets would cost between 200 yuan and 2,000 yuan (about $26 to $260).

Aguilera, renowned for her eye-catching costume choices as much as her soaring ballads, is the latest in a growing list of international stars to play China’s commercial capital, despite culture officials’ traditionally strict reservations about overtly sexual themes in lyrics and performance.

Tour Review: Aguilera Makes Her Own Headlines

March 29th, 2007

As Christina Aguilera performed her song “Still Dirrty,” Friday night at Madison Square Garden, fake newspaper headlines flashed on the video screen behind her: “Christina Has Gone From ‘Dirrty’ to ‘Demure’,” “Christina: From Nasty to Chastity,” and so on.

Aguilera, who became a star during the teen-pop craze of the late ’90s, was, in part, mocking the media’s reaction to her last two albums, 2002’s “Stripped” and last year’s “Back To Basics.” The former took some fans by surprise with its brazen sexual references, and the skin-baring music videos Aguilera released for its singles. The latter’s singles and videos have been tamer and, musically, the album has a retro flavor, with touches of jazz and blues added to Aguilera’s prior blend of pop, rock and hip-hop.

Critics have noticed the difference, though I doubt anyone has been crass enough to write she’s gone “from nasty to chastity.” It’s not that big a deal, anyway, since “Stripped” mixed introspective, dignified songs with the racier stuff, and “Back to Basics” has some provocative double entendres of its own.

Aguilera, 26, made the point herself on “Still Dirrty,” a sequel to the “Back to Basics” hit, “Dirrty.” “I still got the nasty in me,” she sang.

Christina Leaving Hotel With Her Dogs

Christina Leaving Hotel With Her Dogs

When it’s time to go, and you’re Christina Aguilera, and you’re still in bed, well, just take the bed with you.

The “Back to Basics” chanteuse exited her Manhattan hotel yesterday after a long night before — a big Madison Square Garden concert followed by a splashy after-party at Marquee. And she apparently had just enough time before the car whisked her away to grab her dogs, throw on a hairnet — and don a pair of very large sunglasses.

Aguilera has repeatedly reference her and husband Jordan Bratman’s penchant for “Naked Sundays” — not so, yesterday.

Aguilera’s Hubby is so Romantic

March 27th, 2007

AguileraChristina Aguilera has revealed that she and husband Jordan Bratman frequently surprise each other with little romantic gestures.

Christina married the music executive in 2005 and told People magazine recently: “He’ll fill my room with balloons and I won’t be expecting it.”

“I’ll come in the room and there will be balloons everywhere and a card and my favourite chocolates all around - and I’m always sending cards when I can, just cute little love notes.”

“He always leaves Post-Its by my bed when I wake up in the morning telling me how much he loves me. All that gushy stuff, but it feels good. He’s the best.”
