Christina Aguilera Interview: From Pop Tart To Pinup

March 27th, 2007

Christina Aguilera has gone through more transformations than the average pop tartlet - but she has yet to visit rehab or get caught without her panties, unlike some of her most formidable competitors in the bubble-gum era of the late’90s.

Her latest album, the two-disc “Back to Basics,” is more than what its title implies. It’s Aguilera studying her idols of the past and paying tribute to them now, in a completely cool way.

Witness the success of her latest single, “Candyman,” a throwback to the days of The Andrews Sisters, or even Bette Midler’s “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

The song is an unlikely radio hit, yet it garnered more than 2,300 spins on stations nationwide this week, according to the tracking site www.allaccess.com.

It takes more than the massive pipes she possesses to attract a fickle Top 40 audience with a retro-sounding song, but Aguilera has obviously tapped into something.

The 26-year-old, who grew up in Pennsylvania, kicked off the U.S. leg of her “Back to Basics” tour in late February. She comes to the Verizon Center in Washington on April 2.

Just before hitting the road, Aguilera talked to reporters in a teleconference about what making this album meant to her and how much we really know about the real Christina.

Christina & Jordan: Long-Distance Love

March 27th, 2007

Christina & JordanChristina Aguilera may be in the middle of a worldwide Back to Basics tour, but she says husband Jordan Bratman knows how to keep the romance alive despite the distance.

“He’ll fill my room with balloons and I won’t be expecting it,” she told People Wednesday at a party in New York City for her Nylon magazine cover. “I’ll come in the room and there will be balloons everywhere and a card and my favorite chocolates all around – and I’m always sending cards when I can, just cute little love notes.”

It doesn’t stop there. “He always leaves Post-Its by my bed when I wake up in the morning telling me how much he loves me. All that gushy stuff, but it feels good. He’s the best,” Aguilera, 26, said of Bratman, 29, whom she wed in 2005 and calls her “best friend in the whole wide world.”

What else makes their marriage work? “Naked Sundays definitely keep it spicy! And we make sure that we always have fun together and keep it fun and sexy. We went to Disneyland with a couple of friends on Valentine’s Day, keeping it super fun and light. We go out to romantic dinners a lot. We always make key spots, dim, sexy spots. We do anything your average couple would do, but with an interesting twist.”

And while Aguilera says that she and Bratman “do plan on having a family,” don’t expect to hear pregnancy reports any time soon. “I do have a schedule for myself and goals I want to achieve, but it’s definitely on the list of things to do in the next few years,” she said. “We’ll have fun trying in the meantime!”

Bratman, a music exec, was on hand to support his wife Wednesday night at the Hotel Gansevoort, where other party guests included Eve, Lance Bass, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Amber Tamblyn, Alan Cumming, Joss Stone and Joel Madden – as well as old pal Justin Timberlake, who arrived just after 1 a.m.

After catching up with Aguilera for close to an hour, her onetime tourmate told her, “I’m gonna try to see you at the Garden on Friday” (she’s performing at New York City’s Madison Square Garden). “It’s good to see you.” With that, Aguilera wrapped her arm around Bratman and leaned her head on his shoulder at the end of a very long day.

Christina Aguilera Lands Role In CSI: New York?

March 27th, 2007

Christina Aguilera is to appear in hit TV show CSI: New York, and plans have already been made for a darker theme for the episode.

Aguilera will put her fledgling acting skills to the test in the Crime Scene Investigation series, having previously only voiced a small part in the animated movie Shark Tale.

Executive producer Anthony Zuiker says, “Christina’s a fan of the show, and we’re excited to have her. The episode will probably explore the topic of battered women.”

Aguilera has been an avid campaigner against domestic violence after revealing her father physically abused her mother during her childhood.

Aguilera feels more empowered by her sexuality now she is in her 20s

March 27th, 2007

Christina Aguilera says she is no longer the innocent girl who broke onto the music scene with hit single ‘Genie in a Bottle’ in 1999. She told Nylon magazine: ‘I’m not the same person who released ‘Genie in a Bottle’ and then ‘Dirrty’.

‘I have this overconfidence with my sexuality because I feel empowered by it, and I love being in control of every facet of what I do.’ Christina loves to exert some of that control in the bedroom with husband Jordan Bratman. She confessed she and music producer Jordan often indulge in naughty doctors-and-nurses role-play games to spice up their love life, and enjoy dressing up in sexy costumes. Christina said: ‘I got Jordan a doctor’s outfit with a doctor’s bag full of toys - and I wore the naughty nurse’s costume, of course.’
